Who is the Apprentice Employee Assistance Program for?
The Apprentice Employee Assistance Program is for apprentices and trainees employed by Victorian businesses. This program provides all apprentices and trainees with access to an Employee Assistance Program. Some apprentices and trainees will already have access to an Employee Assistance Program through their employer.

The main goal of the Apprentice Employee Assistance Program is to offer free confidential, short-term counselling and coaching for a wide range of health, mental health, and wellbeing challenges.

Who is eligible to use the Apprentice Employee Assistance Program?

  • Current apprentices and trainees employed by businesses in Victoria.
  • This includes apprentices and trainees in the construction industry, as this sector comprises a significant portion of the total apprenticeship population.
  • The apprentices and trainees should be aged 15 and above.
  • No apprentice or trainee will be turned away from this service.

Why was this Apprentice Employee Assistance Program created?

The Apprentice Employee Assistance Program aims to address the high rates of mental health issues and suicide among apprentices and trainees, particularly in the building industry.

What types of apprenticeships and traineeships does the Apprentice Employee Assistance Program cover?

The Apprentice Employee Assistance Program covers all apprentices and trainees.

This includes construction trades, electrotechnology and telecommunications trades, and automotive and engineering trades.

What are some common challenges that apprentices encounter?
Research shows that common issues apprentices and trainees face include workplace bullying, power imbalances, financial stress, substance abuse issues, gambling problems, family violence, and managing anxiety and workplace stress.
