Congratulations to Vanessa Georgefski
Vanessa is completing BSB30120 – Certificate III in Business (Customer Engagement) as a Trainee with Western Program Alliance (McConnell Dowell Constructors (AUST) PTY LTD).
Here are the insights she shared about her training experience and how she has applied the knowledge to her professional life.
Q: What does your role entail?
A: I am the Office Manager for our Footscray office. I organise maintenance, arrange building access, access cards and liaise with visitors and security. I’m also responsible for ordering all office consumables, including stationery and uniforms and supporting site administration, HS Administration and have starting training for Social Procurement reporting.
Q: What skills have you gained through your traineeship that you can directly apply into your workplace?
A: Before starting this role, I wasn’t very confident with computers, but my traineeship has changed that completely. The course has aligned perfectly with the work I do every day. I’ve gained hands on skills in areas such as email communication, drafting and formatting documents, and creating professional PowerPoint presentations. I’ve also developed the ability to proofread, organise information clearly, and produce polished work with much more confidence. These skills have made me more efficient and effective in my role.
Q: What aspects of your training have brought you the greatest enjoyment thus far?
A: I’m genuinely loving the learning process. After being out of school for many years, going back to study at 46 and as a mum, felt a bit daunting at first. That’s why it means so much when I receive a “competent” mark on my assessments. It makes me feel proud, accomplished, and reassured that I can do this. The confidence I’m gaining has been one of the most enjoyable parts of the journey.
Q: What advice can you give anyone who is thinking about undertaking a traineeship?
A: Don’t doubt yourself. If you’re considering a traineeship, trust that you’re capable. Ask as many questions as you need, that’s how you learn. A traineeship is a chance to grow, gain confidence, and prove to yourself that you can do it. Take the leap!
Q: How did you find our Online Virtual training – is it something you would recommend?
A: Yes, I would highly recommend it. The online virtual training worked perfectly with my schedule. I work full time, and having the flexibility to study around my hours made such a difference. I’m also lucky to have a wonderfully supportive workplace, which helped me stay motivated. The structure of the training made it easy to follow, accessible, and achievable even with a busy life.
Q: How did you find working and training together at the same time, is it beneficial?
A: Absolutely, 100%. Like on the job training, it worked perfectly with my role. As I’ve taken on more administrative responsibilities at work, it’s been incredibly beneficial to learn each skill right when I need it. Being able to immediately apply what I’m learning has helped everything stick and has made me feel more confident and capable in my day to day tasks.
Q: How has your traineeship experience influenced your short-term and long-term career goals?
A: Before starting my traineeship, I had limited myself to the idea of staying in an Office Manager role. I didn’t really believe I could progress much further. Since beginning my certificate, that mindset has completely shifted. I’m now planning to continue straight into my Certificate IV, and I’ve already taken on extra tasks across different departments. This experience has opened up new pathways for me and given me the confidence to grow within the company as departments evolve or new opportunities arise.
Q: Upon completion, do you plan to further your studies?
A: Yes, my certificate 4 in Business is next on my list.
Q: How did you find the working relationship between yourself and Integrity Business College?
A: Great! They were easy to talk to, always available when I had questions, and incredibly knowledgeable. I felt supported throughout the entire process.
Q: Would you recommend Integrity?
A: Highly recommend!
